About Me

NZ Hiking Adventures

I walk to clear my head, to make sense of hard things, and to feel steady again.

NZ Hiking Adventures began as a way to document the places I was walking, but it quickly became something deeper. The trails I share here aren’t just routes on a map — they’re moments of resilience, recovery, and perspective found in the backcountry.

Hiking has been a constant through some of the most challenging seasons of my life. When my body has felt fragile and my world uncertain, the rhythm of walking, the simplicity of huts, and the honesty of the outdoors have helped me reconnect with myself. Out there, progress is measured in steps, weather, and daylight — and that’s often enough.

This site is a record of those journeys. You’ll find multi-day tramps, hut stays, day walks, gear systems, and trail reflections from across Aotearoa. I share the good conditions and the hard ones, the strong days and the slow days, because all of it belongs in the story.

NZ Hiking Adventures isn’t about ticking tracks off a list. It’s about moving through landscapes with intention, learning to trust your body again, and finding clarity one step at a time.

If you’re here because you love the backcountry, need space to breathe, or are finding your way through something difficult — you’re welcome here.

About Trail Cloth

Trail Cloth was created out of practical need, time on the trail, and a desire to do things better in the backcountry.

Like many hikers, I wanted an alternative to toilet paper — something lighter, reusable, and more sustainable. But Trail Cloth became more than just a gear solution. It’s designed for real conditions, long days, and bodies that don’t always follow the “standard” outdoor narrative.

Each Trail Cloth is made with a water-resistant outer layer (nylon or PUL) and a soft faux suede inner, making it comfortable, quick-drying, and easy to rinse and reuse. It’s primarily designed for pee on the trail, but it’s just as useful as a wash cloth, sweat wipe, or general clean-up cloth when you’re living out of a pack.

Trail Cloth exists because small systems matter. When you’re tired, cold, or navigating recovery, simple, reliable gear can make the outdoors feel more accessible and less intimidating. It’s one less thing to worry about, one less trace left behind, and one small way to look after yourself while you’re out there.

This isn’t about perfection or purity — it’s about thoughtful choices that support comfort, dignity, and sustainability in wild places.

Trail Cloth is part of how I move through the backcountry: practical, adaptable, and honest.
