Hiking Dinner: Spaghetti Bolognese — The Easy Way

When it comes to trail dinners, simple is best — especially after a long day of climbing hills or trudging through tussock. This Spaghetti Bolognese version is hearty, lightweight, and full of familiar comfort without the effort of cooking from scratch.
With just three ingredients, it’s proof that you don’t need much to make a satisfying meal in the backcountry.
🍝 Trail Spaghetti Bolognese
Ingredients
1 pack Radix Pasta Bolognese
1 pack Backcountry Cuisine freeze-dried mince
Parmesan to top
🔥 Method
Combine:
Empty both the Radix Pasta Bolognese and Backcountry mince into your pot or meal pouch.
Add boiling water:
Pour in boiling water until the ingredients are just covered. Stir well to mix.
Soak:
Seal and let it sit for 20–30 minutes while you set up camp or enjoy a cup of tea.
Serve:
Give it a good stir, then top generously with Parmesan for that creamy, salty finish that turns it into a proper comfort meal.
🏕️ Why It Works
Two freeze-dried meals = one upgraded dinner. The Radix brings nutrition and flavour, while the Backcountry mince adds real texture and protein.
Minimal cleanup. Just one pot or pouch — nothing more.
Light to carry. Everything is dehydrated, compact, and perfect for overnight or multi-day hikes.
💡 Trail Tip
Parmesan lasts surprisingly well on the trail — pack it pre-grated in a small ziplock and store in a cool part of your pack. It’ll make even the simplest meal feel like something special.
