Bealey Spur - A Gentle Climb to Big Mountain Views
The Bealey Spur Track is one of those rare walks that feels accessible without ever feeling ordinary. A steady climb through beech forest leads to open tussock country, a character-filled hut, and views that stretch deep into the heart of the Southern Alps.

Into the Bealey Valley – A Short Walk with Big Rewards
Accessible, scenic, and adaptable, the Bealey Valley Track is ideal for beginners, those easing into hiking, or anyone simply looking to break up the drive to, or from, the West Coast with a walk that offers far more than its short distance suggests.

Goat Pass Hut: A Classic Arthur's Pass Overnight
Goat Pass Hut is one of the classic overnight hikes in the Arthur’s Pass area. Sitting on the Te Araroa Trail, the route follows the Mingha River through a wide valley before climbing over Dudley Knob and reaching the alpine saddle of Goat Pass.
It’s a rewarding hike with varied terrain, good navigation, and expansive mountain views.

Broken River Coal Mine Track
This is an underrated track that deserves a place on any Canterbury day hike list.
It’s close to Christchurch and Arthur’s Pass. It combines history, forest, river, and open hillsides in a compact loop. And at around four hours return, it offers a satisfying day out without the need for an overnight pack.

Avoca Homestead Hut
A historic foothills escape in the Broken River Valley
The Old Avoca Homestead was built in 1906 and sits quietly in the foothills beside Broken River. Tucked into a wide tussock basin, it offers a glimpse into life on a remote high-country station more than a century ago.
With straightforward access, strong historic character, and the wider Broken River Valley at its doorstep, it makes an ideal short walk with real substance.

Day Hikes in Arthur’s Pass & the Craigieburn Range
Arthur’s Pass and the Craigieburn Range are two of Canterbury’s best-known mountain playgrounds — rugged, scenic, and packed with trails that deliver a full sense of adventure without needing a full pack or overnight stay.

Woolshed Hill - Arthur's Pass National Park
